AOC: Vin de Pays du Gard
The wine country is called Gard, known before as Vin de Pays du Gard, with the new name IGP in August 1, 2009. This is a departmental wine whose production is slightly less than the wine country of Herault. This designation includes wines from the area classified independently based on their soil and climate.
Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the south and by the foothills of the Massif Central to the north, the area is rocky with clay-limestone soils of the Quaternary. Since Roman times, the vine has been marked by culture and history. Traditional varieties are carefully selected and cultivated, which earned the Department of wines from the area very qualitative as Vin de Pays des Cévennes and the wine country of Vaunage.
The wine country of red gard (Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) has a gorgeous dress Grenant supported the red cherry highlights. The nose is a complex, expressive and fine wine on primary notes of ripe red fruits like strawberry, raspberry and currant. The second reveals notes of venison, leather, fur, with spicy aromas, peppery that mingle perfectly with notes of garrigue, bay leaf and thyme. In the mouth it is a complete and full-bodied, the attack is frank, lively mid-palate is full, the material is deep and fine tannins are present but are round, thin and melted, the finish is very good maintained by a remarkably well controlled acidity, notes of livestock, roasting and sweet spices. This type of wine can be kept for more than 5 years. It will partner well with stews of game found.
