Rhône
The Rhône Valley played an active role in the establishment of French wine-industry appellations. The wines today have progressed and now occupy a major place among the best AOC (a French control certification) French wines.
Forming a corridor between the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, the Rhone Valley extends over six French departments and 75,600 hectares of vineyards, and produces over 3 million hectoliters of red, rosé, sparkling and dry white or sweet wines.
The wines grown between Vienne and Avignon draw their strength from the sun and caressing wind, and from the determination of the region’s many wine-growers to produce quality wines while respecting the environment. These wines, crafted and inspired by a great variety of grapes and terroirs, give pleasure to wine-lovers in all parts of the world.
Many varieties make up the wine. The most famous are Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Bourboulenc and Clairette.
