DESCRIPTION

The 2018 vintage may go on record as the longest season yet. Abundant rainfall on DAOU Mountain gave way to a later bud break in April. The vines were energized by the much-needed moisture, setting one of our best crops to date. The weather remained steady from spring through June when we received a long heat wave that fortunately did not affect the quality of the grapes since it occurred before the start of veraison. A cooling trend then ensued for the rest of the season, prolonging hang-time, and harvest into October. The result was our latest harvest ever on the mountain. The long hang-time produced deep color and concentration with lush density. The tannins are silky and beautifully integrated. As a result, the 2018 vintage gave way to powerful and balanced wines.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes:

Writing the tasting notes of this wine is a very difficult thing as this wine leaves your speechless! Uber dark and concentrated with elegance and freshness that defies logic, this wine explodes out of the glass with licorice, dark chocolate, ash and blackberries. Complex, layered and very full bodied, it retains its elegance throughout the tasting experience. The nose explodes with aromas ranging from cigar box, toffee, vanilla bean and a floral bouquet worth of a wedding floral arrangement! It’s hard to drink this wine and to admit that such an artistic rendition can exist. It will improve and age graceful for decades.
